Charlene Lugar, wife of Senate Foreign Relations ranking member Dick Lugar, was arrested Wednesday night for drunken driving after a traffic accident in McLean, Va.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, “At 6:18 last night one of our patrol officers initiated a traffic stop” of Charlene Lugar at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Dominion Reserve Drive in McLean. Lugar was then arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Sen. Lugar, R-Ind., issued a statement, saying: “At about 6:30 p.m. last evening, November 18, Mrs. Lugar had a traffic accident in our McLean, Virginia neighborhood. A charge has been filed and a court appearance is scheduled for January. No other persons were in her car or the unattended car she hit. Thankfully, no one was injured. We are deeply sorry and embarrassed that this accident has occurred.”

Charlene Lugar has been released.

Way to remind us that her entire appeal is mostly based on her looks.

California’s failed state has successfully pissed off the one group with the free time to do something about it. Or at least the group most willing to go on a rampage. This was a planned protest across the UC system with the support and participation of hundreds of professors and other faculty. The protest at UCLA is obviously getting out of hand in the video, but what do you expect from a congregation of rightfully angry college students.

They voted to pass a 32% tuition hike. Effective winter semester tuition will increase by $500 and over time the tuition will increase the entire 32%. There was also a  much bigger demonstration on the first day of classes when most of the school walked out of classes. There is also another protest planned for today. No word as to it’s status due to the arrests.

The regents had to vote to pass this hike due to the nearly $15 billion in state funding for higher education that was cut by the budget passed by the State Assembly and Senators. Some might even ask “Why are you protesting at a Regent’s meeting? It’s not their fault. You should be protesting at Sacramento.” Which is a completely fair point. But then again, these are the ones responsible for making the budget.  Some  see it as though it as more laziness than greed. They couldn’t figure out where to make budget cuts, so they raised tuition.

The sick irony of it all is that value of the degree is in free fall, but there’s no question it’s still the basis for any professional career. Many of these students will eventually graduate and try to join the workforce and realize how tough it is to not only get a job in your field, but any job at all right now.

Chris will you settle for some of the time? I won’t tell your constituents.

The NYTimes reported today, in a move that wasn’t shocking to anyone, that lobbiests have been the ones setting policy. Well they reported that they would write blurbs for politicians’

In an interview, Representative Bill Pascrell Jr., Democrat of New Jersey, said: “I regret that the language was the same. I did not know it was.” He said he got his statement from his staff and “did not know where they got the information from.”

Would it not be prudent to do at least a little fact checking before giving a speech? Since its you who is embarassed and not your speech writers.

The lobbyists, employed by Genentech and by two Washington law firms, were remarkably successful in getting the statements printed in the Congressional Record under the names of different members of Congress.

I wonder how much it costs to buy a statement in the Congressional Record. This kind of behavior has a lot to do with why we alwaysseem to  see the same talking point from the talking heads for about a week.

One of the reasons tea baggers are against illegal immigrants is the ‘violence that comes with them.’Prior to this attack, ANSWER had sent out the following letter:

Racism is like anything else in this world: in order to make it fall, you must smash it! That is why we are calling on all people to come out tomorrow, to organize a militant confrontation with the so-called “tea baggers.” Beating back these forces will require us to organize together, take the streets, fight the racists wherever they show their faces and drive them out of every community.

Obviously this kind of rhetoric isn’t exactly trying to discourage violent confrontations.

These Tea Partiers just got trolled. I wasn’t sure they sure would get it for a while. These people have completely marginalized the ‘tea party’ movement because instead of focusing on the single issue, lowering taxes and lowering government waste they have embraced pro-life extremists, racists and other people on the extreme right-wing side of the gambit.
